ALVERNA MADGE VENCILL NISWANDER, 89 years of age of Grundy, VA, went to be with the Lord, Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Buchanan General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Angeline Phillips Vencill. Mrs. Niswander was a retired teacher from Tazewell County, having taught for 26-years in Cliffield, Bandy, Steelsburg and Pounding Mill Elementary Schools.

She was a member of the Grundy Church of Christ for 6-years and enjoyed working with the Butterfly Ladies each Tuesday. Before moving to Grundy, she was a faithful member of the Cliffield Christian Church and the Graham Christian Church respectively.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59-years: Hubert Lee Niswander.

She is survived by 1-Daughter: Anna Lee and husband Sam Hylton Jr., Grundy, VA, 1-Sister: Louella Christian, Springville, VA, 1-Granddaughter: Angela and husband Tom Cooper, Grundy, VA, 1-Grandson: Dr. Steven and wife Mary Beth Yates Hylton, Abingdon, VA

Also, survived by 3-Great-Grandchildren: Ethan Cooper and Jack Cooper of Grundy, VA and Carter Hylton of Abingdon, VA.

She was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Barbara Leeoma White, Mt. Vernon, OH.

Funeral Services for ALVERNA MADGE VENCILL NISWANDER will be conducted Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Church of Christ, Grundy, VA, with Evg. Dennis Wimmer and Evg. Tom Cooper officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Church of Christ, Grundy, VA, Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Johnny Niswander, Scott Christian, Jack Thompson, Jack Zane Thompson, Craig Plymal, Rages Matney, Bill Carter and Gary Coleman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Elders & Deacons of Grundy Church of Christ, Gene Belcher, Charlie Woods, Jim Singleton, Henry Farmer, Gene White, Doug White, Robert Carner, Kenneth Earls and Walter Harrison.
