ARTHUR MAY, 81 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late James Basil and Daisie Dotson May. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He served in the United States Army where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired Carpenter and Coal Miner.

Mr. May is survived by 1-Brother: Elder Hubert May, Hurley, VA

He was preceded in death by 7-Sisters: Margie Ellen May, Elizabeth May, Lydia May Spencer, Birthie Justus, Lucy Justus, Virgie May Young and Minnie May Hurley; 4-Brothers: Jessie James May, Joe May, Theodore May and Howard May.

Funeral Services for ARTHUR MAY will be conducted Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church, near Hurley, VA, with Ministers: Harrison Smith, Noah Slone, Estil Hackney, Jimmy Lee Smith and Brian Moore officiating with burial to follow in the May Cemetery on May Branch, near Hurley, VA.

Friends may call at the Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church, near Hurley, VA, Monday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Larry Ray Justus, Kelvin May, Emory Lee Hurley, Brady Lee Coleman, Joy Lee May, Joseph Mounts, Roscoe Muncy, Charles William Burton, Russell Burton and Mike Duty.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Mounts, Randy Jackson, Patrick Charles, Ronald Moore, Matthew Moore, Paul Dotson, Dee Hurley, Gary Hurley, Franklin Burton and Special Friends: Timothy Gary Fletcher, Brady Coleman, Larry Ray Justus, Hoppy Coleman and Hoppy Coleman, Jr.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
