BASIL BANE DAVIS,
94 years of age of
Vansant, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Buchanan
General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in West Virginia, he was
the son of the late J R and Laura Davis. He was a member of the Big Rock
Pentecostal Holiness Church and an Automobile Mechanic. He was a resident of
Buchanan County most of his life.
He was a World War #2
Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was involved in the
Southern Philippines and Ryukyus Island campaign. He received the Asiatic
Pacific Theater Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Philippine
Liberation Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal
and the World War 2 Victory Medal.
Mr. Davis was preceded death
by his wife, Leah Pearl Hagy Davis and one brother, Marion Davis.
He is survived by one sister
– Linda Viers of Vansant, VA, One Sister-in-law – Emma Davis of Vansant, VA
Funeral services for
BASIL BANE DAVIS will be conducted Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Cooper and Rev. Tony Lowe
officiating with burial to follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool
Hill, VA.
Friends may call at the
Grundy Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. Sunday with services at 7:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be
Robert Vandyke, Donald Keen, Henry Deel, Earnie Hagy, Frank Colley and Denver
Hagy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be
Lee Rutherford, Wendal Roberts, Coy Viers, James Arrington and Jim Wayne
Childress.
Full military rites will be
conducted by members of the John Ratliff Post #164 of the American Legion.
