
BILL (ME) (PAW) ELSWICK,
81 years of age
of Maxie, VA, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at his home
following an extended illness. Born in Lookout, KY, in 1927, raised and lived at
Harman, VA. A kind and gentle man, loved by everyone he met. Always shaking
hands with a piece of candy. He was notorious for giving out his poor man’s
money clip.
A faithful member of the
Harman Memorial Baptist Church serving as Sunday School Director for 33-Years,
Assistant Sunday School Director, Choir Director, Choir Member and Soloist, and
lifetime Deacon.
Bill’s love for music was
shared with his church, family and friends. He sang solos at services for
numerous Buchanan County Residents.
He was a coal miner for
42-Years, working for Harman Mining Corporation for 41-Years. He was a proud
member of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union No. 7025.
He was preceded in death by
his parents Oliver and Roma Looney Elswick, two sisters, Vera Templeman and
Guthrie Elswick.
He is survived by his loving
wife of 59-Years: Helen Hartford Elswick, Maxie, VA, 2-Daughters: Sandra
“Cookie” and husband Bob Dankert, Whitmore Lake, MI, Vickie and husband Jim
Dent, Pauley’s Island, SC, 3-Sons: Steve Elswick, Chesterfield, VA, Danny and
wife Chris Elswick, Harman, VA, James Hal Elswick, Harman, VA, 1-Sister: Louise
and husband Dallas Coleman, Hazel Park, MI
Also, survived by
1-Granddaughter: Angela Dankert, 5-Grandsons: Stephen Elswick II, Tony Mullins,
Jamie Mullins, Robert Dankert, Michael Elswick, 6-Great-Grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews, his church family, a host of friends and a very special
caretaker, who he loved like a daughter, Rita Rice.
Funeral Services for BILL
(ME) (PAW) ELSWICK will be conducted Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at
the Harman Memorial Baptist Church, Harman, VA, with Pastor Shea Shrader
officiating with burial to follow in the Family Cemetery on Doubling Fields
Road, Harman, VA.
Friends may call at the
Harman Memorial Baptist Church Thursday and Friday afternoons at 5:00 P.M. with
services Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be:
Grandsons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Deacons of Harman Memorial Baptist Church.
