BILLY RAY PERRY, SR.,
67 years of age of Grundy, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the
Wellmont Hospice, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness. Born in
Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Calvin Edd and Hagar McClanahan
Perry. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was of the
Christian Faith. Mr. Perry served in the United States Marine Corp. during
the Vietnam Conflict earning the rank of Corporal and received the Good
Conduct Medal. Billy graduated from Grundy High School and attended
Southwest Virginia Community College and East Tennessee State University. He
was a loving father, grandfather and was a Construction Supervisor. He was
the last surving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Perry is
survived by his wife, Maxine Hale Perry, Grundy, VA, 2-Sons: Billy Ray Jr.
and wife Jodi Perry, Grundy, VA, Jason Brian and wife Heather Perry, Raven,
VA, 2-Brothers-in-Law: Jim Jones, Salisburg, NC, Ralph Carberry, Leesburg,
FL
Also, survived by
4-Grandsons: Brenton Gene Perry, Dylon J. Perry, Jonathan Ralph Perry and
Justin Ray Perry; Special Friends: Tim & Lisa Hess and Family, Trooper Arch
Woliver and Family; and several Nieces and Nephews, whom he loved greatly.
He was preceded
in death by 1-Daughter: Chandra Rayette Perry and 2-Sisters: Mary Lou
Carberry and Lois Lee Jones.
Funeral Services for
BILLY RAY PERRY, SR. will be
conducted Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home
Chapel with Minister Matthew Daniels and Rev. Shannon Justice officiating
with burial to follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, VA.
Friends may call
at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with
services at 7:00 P.M.
Active
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Perry, Justin Perry, Arch Woliver, Tim Hess,
Rayburn Minton, Scott Cole, Ricky Wright and Robbie Minton.
Honorary
Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Brenton Perry and Dylon Perry; Ralph Jackson,
Roger Yates, Dave Shannahan, Ed Matney and the Employees of V&V Restaurant.
Full Military
Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of Child’s Gentry Post
No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
