CARLIS
“COBB” DONALD KEENE,
80 years
of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Buchanan
General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the
son of the late Norman and Hettie Stacy Keene. He was a lifelong resident of
Buchanan County and was a member of the Deel Church of Christ. He was a graduate
of Grundy High School Class of 1952 and a member of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows Lodge #17 of Grundy, VA.
Mr. Keene served in the United States Army during
the Korean Conflict where he received the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Korean
Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, a Bronze Star Medal, a United Nations
Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He was Honorably Discharged in 1952. He was a
member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion and worked for Island
Creek Coal Corporation for 18 ½ years, where he retired. He was a devoted
husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was an avid hunter
and fisherman.

Nadene Baker Keene, November 7, 2003.
He is survived by 1-Daughter: Sharon Coleene and
husband Michael Sayers, Roanoke, VA, 1-Son: Donald Keene and companion Raven
Blackfeather, Council, VA, 6-Sisters: Ellen Looney, Vansant, VA, Marie and
husband Bob Huckabee, Brainerd, MN, Fay and husband Phillip Rife, Hurley, VA,
Frances and husband Arvil Clevinger, Vansant, VA, Charlotte and husband Fred
Walters, Glen Allen, VA, Phyllis and husband Steve McClanahan, Richlands, VA
Also, survived by 5-Grandchildren: Jason and wife
Deanna Keene, Sheena Sayers, Michelle Sayers, Steffan Hopkins and Aiyana Keene;
1-Great-Grandson: Kasey Wayne Keene and several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3-Brothers: Kermit,
Coy and Earnest Keene.
Funeral Services for CARLIS “COBB” DONALD
KEENE will be conducted Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy
Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Bobby Yates officiating with burial to follow
in Morgan-Turner Family Cemetery on Backbone Ridge near Clinchco, VA.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home
Chapel Sunday afternoon at 5:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
Full Military Rites will be conducted by Members
of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
