CLARA DELORES RIFFE CHILDRESS, 78 years of age of the Little Prater Section of Grundy, VA, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Wellmont-Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness. Born October 1, 1931 in Mingo County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lewis L. and Pearl Lewis Riffe. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a member of Ratliff Chapel Baptist Church. She was a longtime Treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and was chosen as a delegate to the Republican State Convention. Delores worked at the Department of Social Services for several years and was a member of the Rebeccas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Cline Childress, September 22, 1989.

She is survived by 1-Daughter: Vickie C. Bowman, Grundy, VA, 1-Son: Michael Dean and wife Sally Childress, Grundy, VA, 2-Sisters: Leona Ratliff, Grundy, VA, Marlene Ratliff, Big Stone Gap, VA

Also, survived by 2-Grandchildren: Eric Cline Childress, Pikeville, KY and Ida Jane Looney, Grundy, VA;  2-Great-Grandchildren: Justin Cody Looney and Jessica Katelyn Looney, both of Grundy, VA; and Special Friend: Patty Whited.

She was preceded in death by 2-Brothers: Herman and Jack Riffe.

Funeral Services for CLARA DELORES RIFFE CHILDRESS will be conducted Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Rick Ellis and Evg. William L. Neeley officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Donnie Ratliff, Randy Ratliff, Richard Ratliff, Johnny Ratliff, Dean Childress, Eric Childress, Robert Kelly, Devon Kelly and Bill Kilgore.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Timmy Riffe, J.D. Jackson, Wayne Thomas, Don Griffey, Jeff Stiltner, Dr. J.G. Patel, Cody Looney and Members of the Ratliff Chapel Baptist Church.
