DAVID L. CHILDRESS, 80 years of age of Oakwood, VA, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Russell County, he was the son of the late Jess and Lola Claybourne Childress. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was of the Protestant Faith. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a former employee of Jewell Smokeless Coal Company with 21-years of service.

Mr. Childress is survived by his wife, Drucie Lester Childress, Oakwood, VA, 3-Daughters: JoAnn Childress, Vansant, VA, Dianna Lynn Blankenship, Kimper, KY, Pat and husband Keith McClanahan, Richlands, VA, 1-Son: Terry Lee and wife Marsha Childress, Vansant, VA, 2-Sisters: Hazel Johnson, Tazewell, VA, Bertha Mae Ingles, Mansfield, OH, 1-Brother: Paul and wife Dorothy Childress, Cedar Bluff, VA

Also, survived by 6-Grandchildren: Tara Sparks, Stephanie O’Conner, Courtney Leigh Whaley, Kristina Rae McClanahan, Derrick Blankenship and Brooke Blankenship Tickle, 7-Great-Grandchildren: Abbigail Pack, Dani Whaley, Hunter Sparks, Payton Sparks, Adain O’Conner, Bailey Farmer, and Autumn Blankenship, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Onie Stump and 3-Brothers: Rufus Childress, Elmer Childress, Perry Childress, and 1-Infant Brother.

Funeral Services for DAVID L. CHILDRESS will be Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers: Charlie Cooper, Wayne Cline and Ancil Childress officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services Friday evening at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Keith McClanahan, Kris Whaley, Harold Bentley, Woody Parsons, Danny Rasnake and T.D. Lee.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Vish and Staff of the Heart Center in Kingsport, TN.
