DONALD DOUGLAS CONLEY, 69 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Grainger County, TN, he was a son of the late Edward Clifton and Emily Jane Foster Conley. He was a resident of Buchanan County for many years and was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ. Mr. Conley served in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne  and was stationed at Fort Brag, North Carolina and Germany, was a member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 7360. He was a devoted husband and was a Disabled Coal Miner working at Virginia Pocahontas Mine No. 3 and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union No. 1640.

Mr. Conley is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Mastin Conley, Vansant, VA, 2-Step-Daughters: Linda and husband George Goble, Grundy, VA, Lynn and husband James Earl Chapman, Grundy, VA, 2-Sisters:  Judy and husband Lonnie Raines, Stokesdale, NC, Wanda Faye and husband Gary Jude, Grundy, VA, 1-Brother: James and wife Joyce Conley, Vansant, VA

Also, survived by 5-Step-Grandchildren: George Kelly Goble, Richard N. Goble, John H. Goble, Brittany Chapman and Ashley Chapman; 4-Step-Great-Grandchildren: Savannah Tester, Breana Tester, Landon Baker and Cade Baker.

He was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Mary Belcher.

Funeral Services for DONALD DOUGLAS CONLEY will be conducted Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evgs. Jon Searle and Gerald Vanover officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of VFW Post No. 7360.

Active Pallbearers will be Gary Jude, Lonnie Raines, George H. Goble, George Kelly Goble, Richard Goble, Matt Lester, Sonny Foster, John Haven Goble, James Foster and Jeff Foster.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of V.P. #3 Mine, Scott Belcher, Robert Hibbitts, Danny Williamson and Staff of Mercy Rescue Squad.
