EARL BASIL LOONEY, 74 years of age of Whitewood, VA, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary C. Looney.  He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church. Mr. Looney served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a retired employee of Jewell Smokeless.

Mr. Looney was preceded in death by his first wife: Macie Rife Looney and his second wife: Bertha Deel Stiltner Looney.

He is survived by 2-Daughters: Madge and husband Bobby Osborne, Whitewood, VA, Debra and husband Jerry Osborne, Whitewood, VA, 4-Sons: David and wife Kathy Looney, Vansant, VA, Earl Basil Jr. and wife Tina Looney, Pilgrims Knob, VA, Franklin and wife Donna Looney, Pilgrims Knob, VA, Randy and wife Diane Looney, Whitewood, VA, 1-Brother: Dan and wife Cathy Looney, Alamo, TX

Also, survived by 11-Grandchildren and 5-Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 2-Half Sisters: Frankie Street and Gladys Price.

Funeral Services for EARL BASIL LOONEY will be conducted Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Justus, Elder Andy Deel and L.D. Yates officiating with burial to follow in the Cantrell Cemetery on Compton Mountain, near Pilgrims Knob, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Friends.
