EDNA M. SMITH WARD, 92 years of age of Smith Branch Road Section of Grundy, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Virginia following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Jane Yates Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church on Stone Cole for 20 years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grand mother and was a wonderful homemaker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Ward, October 11, 1956.

She is survived by 2-Daughters: Josephine Ward, Grundy, VA , Bonnie Lou Ward, Grundy, VA, 1-Son: Teddy and wife Betty Ward, Grundy, VA, 2-Daughters-in-Law: Doris Ward, Grundy, VA, Jeanni Ward, Kalispell, MT, 5- Grandchildren and -8- Great-Grandchildren.

Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by 2- Sons: Garmon L. and Farley H. Ward, 1- Sister:     Pinkie Rife, 7- Brothers: Ernest, Ezra, Henry, Hase, Oliver, Everett and Clayton Smith .

Funeral Services for EDNA M. SMITH WARD will be conducted, Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Ronnie Sliger, Eddie Wilson, Josh Bowman, Elders Danny Smith, and Ked Stacy officiating with burial to following in the Ward Family Cemetery-Smith Branch, on Slate Creek near Grundy, Virginia.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday afternoon at 5:00 P. M. with services Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:00 P. M.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
