ESTIL FERL NUCKELS, 77 years of age of Mavisdale, VA, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Henry Clarence and Alta Mae Looney Nuckels. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, accepted the Lord June of 2008 and attended the Guiding Light Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Nuckels graduated from Council High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted husband, a former employee of Thompson & Litton Engineering and was a retired Building Contractor.

Mr. Nuckels is survived by his wife, Pauline Coleman Nuckels, Mavisdale, VA, 1-Sister: Lorene and husband George Paris, Jackson, MS, 1-Brother: Jerry Nuckels, Millsboro, DE

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nuckels was preceded in death by 2-Sisters: Delores G. Maurice and Beulah A. Rodriguez McCane, and 1-Brother: Edward H. Nuckels.

Funeral Services for ESTIL FERL NUCKELS will be conducted Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating with burial to follow in the Hess & Nuckels Cemetery on Fletcher’s Ridge, near Council, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Earl Brown, Nelson Brown, Feril Brown, Allen (Jabo) Addison, Kendall Looney, Joe Cook, James Coleman and Ed Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Fletcher, Jerry Looney, Ervin Nuckels, Kermit Street, Harlis Keen, Sonny Perkins, Bobby Street and Special Caregivers: Linda Coleman, Pat Baldwin, Jamie Stiltner, Beth Matney and Shellie Stout.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department, Box J, Oakwood, VA 24631 or Guiding Light Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 123, Mavisdale, VA  24627.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel by Members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
