EUGENE KENNEDY, 79 years of age of the Lick Branch section of Slate Creek – Grundy, Virginia passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY following an extended illness.  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late John D. and Maudia Elswick Kennedy.   He was a member of the Little Prater Church of Christ for many years, was a Truck Driver for Wes Vandyke Trucking and a heavy equipment operator for Edd Horn Construction Company.  He loved spending time with his family, gardening  and  the outdoors.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Deel Kennedy of Grundy, VA, Four daughters: Linda Stiltner, Grundy, VA, Darlene and her husband Douglas Hagerman, Grundy, VA, Brenda and her husband Scotty Hawks, Grundy, VA, Carol and her husband Michael Stiltner, Grundy, VA, One son: Jimmy and his wife Teresa Kennedy, Grundy, VA, Two Sisters: Ilean Davis, Grundy, VA, Lora and her husband Walter Rubino, Miami, FL

He is also survived by Five grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Maudia Kennedy and One brother – Ovia Kennedy who was killed on the Island of Saipan during WWII.

Funeral services for EUGENE KENNEDY will be conducted Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evgs. Bob Smith and Clyde George officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, VA. 

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. Sunday with services Sunday evening at 7:30.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Kennedy, Mason Kennedy, Robert Stiltner, Scotty Hawks, Matthew Hartford and Johnny Looney.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Medical Park Pharmacy, Angelia Harris, CNP, Douglas Hagerman, Michael Stiltner, Johnny Lane, Buford Yates, Teddy Ward, Ronnie Horn and Michael Cantrell.
