FRANK TYLER YATES,
76 years of age of the
Leemaster Section of Vansant, VA, went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 20,
2008 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County he was
the son of the late Joseph and Rosa Hagy Yates. He was a lifelong resident of
Buchanan County and was a lifelong member of Big Prater Baptist Church where he
served as Treasurer. He was a graduate of Grundy High School, Graduated from
Bluefield Junior College, attended UVA Wise for 1-year and Graduated from the
Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy.
Mr. Yates served in the
United States Air Force for 4-years and was an active member in the American
Cancer Society. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 40-years, member of
Sandy Valley Lodge AFAM #17, Kazim Temple of Roanoke and was commissioned as a
Kentucky Colonel. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and was
Owner/Operator of Westwood Pharmacy and Co-Owner of Royal City Pharmacy.
Mr. Yates is survived by his
wife: Peggy Sturgill Yates, Vansant, VA, 1-Son: Joseph Tyler and wife Jill
Yates, Grundy, VA, 3-Sisters: Alta Lindsay, Vansant, VA, Gay Medcalf, Thomaston,
GA, Flossie Baldwin, Vansant, VA, 1-Brother: Clyde and wife Ruth Yates, Salem,
VA
Also, survived by
3-Grandchildren: Zachary, Katelyn and Isabel and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by
5-Sisters: Naoma Baldwin, Fay Rayser, Leah Keene, Estelle Orrick & Hermie Yates
and 2-Brothers: Bart and Glenn Yates.
Funeral Services for
FRANK TYLER YATES will be conducted Monday, June 23, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at
the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stafford Compton, Evg. Mike Rife and
Eddie Lindsay officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens,
Claypool Hill, VA.
Friends may call at the
Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services at 7:00
P.M.
Masonic Rites will be
conducted Sunday evening at 6:45 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel by
Members of Sandy Valley Lodge AF&AM #17 of Grundy, VA.
Full Military Rites will be
conducted at the cemetery by Members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the
American Legion.
Active Pallbearers will be
Jerry Lindsay, Eddie Lindsay, Josh Lindsay, Chuck Keene, Harold P. Yates, George
Yates, Darrell W. Yates, Eddie Stiltner, Jake Hagy, John Keene and Powell
Lindsay.

Church.
