GREGORY ALVIN MATNEY, 49 years of age of the Brushy Fork Section of Grundy, VA, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Bristol Select Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County he was the son of Imogene Burks Matney, Hurley, VA, and the late Anderson Matney. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Gregory was a 1981 Graduate of Hurley High School. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and was a former employee of A.T. Massey Coal Corporation.

Mr. Matney is survived by his wife, Loretta Justus Matney, Grundy, VA, and his mother Imogene Burks Matney, Hurley, VA, 1-Daughter: Amber Shenice Matney, Hurley, VA, 1-Son: Gregory Travis and wife Amber Leann Matney, Hurley, VA, 1-Sister: Deloris and husband Michael Hall, Erie, OH, 2-Brothers: Kevin Matney, Gastonia, NC, Craig Matney, Hurley, VA

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Melissa Sue Matney and 1-Brother: Carl Douglas Matney.

Funeral Services for GREGORY ALVIN MATNEY will be conducted Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Big Rock, VA, with Ministers: E.C. Honaker, Kenny Jackson and Paul Dotson officiating with burial to follow in the Justus Cemetery on Brushy, near Hurley, VA.

Friends may call at the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Cody Crockett, Bill Reynolds, Ricky Charles, Billy Charles, Keith Charles, Buford Stacy, Greg Griffith and Billy Stiltner.
