HAROLD FRED JUSTUS, 76 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late James A. and Mary Lester Justus. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Hurley Presbyterian Church. Mr. Justus served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the OCC Medal Germany, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal and was a retired Coal Miner. He was a devoted husband and loved fishing, camping, reading and NASCAR. Mr. Justus was a former employee of Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by his wife of 43-years, Waline Stacy Justus, Hurley, VA, 3-Sisters: Ora Hilton, Hurley, VA, Marie Smith, Hurley, VA, Dottie and husband Kennith Wolford, Hurley, VA, 1-Brother: Garfield Dan and wife Gail Justus, Hurley, VA

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 2-Sisters: Dora Stacy Blankenship and Mary Justus Blankenship; and 5-Brothers: Edgar Justus, Earl Justus, Bobby Justus, Billy Justus and Jack Justus.

Funeral Services for HAROLD FRED JUSTUS will be conducted Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Stacy officiating with burial to follow in J.C. Lester Cemetery on Pounding Mill near Hurley, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
