HELEN IRENE SMITH WARD, 77 years of age of the Stonecoal section of Grundy, VA, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Wise County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Blonnie Ringley Smith. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a 1952 Graduate of Grundy High School. Helen was a child of God living in the Pentecostal Faith. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a wonderful homemaker and the last surviving member of the immediate family.

Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Ward, April 7, 2010.

She is survived by 3-Sons: Jeffery Allen Ward, Grundy, VA, Brett Kendal Ward and wife Charlisa Ann, Grundy, VA, Brian Keith Ward and wife Deidre Eritha, Vansant, VA, 1-Special Caregiver: Joyce Boyd, Vansant, VA

Also, survived by 4-Grandchildren: Tonya Ward Shirley, Tiffany Nicole Ward, Terry Dean Ward, Jr. and Tyler Keith Ward; 4-Great-Grandchildren: Winston Shirley, Terry Ward, Devan Shirley and Sean Ward; and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by 1-Son: Terry Dean Ward, 1-Sister: Betty Smith Shelton and 2-Brothers: Dr. Robert Smith Jr. and Joe C. Smith.

Funeral Services for HELEN IRENE SMITH WARD will be conducted Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Luther Bowman officiating with burial to follow in the Ward Family Cemetery on Stonecoal, near Grundy, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
