JAMES A. “RAS” FLETCHER, 76 years of age of Vansant, VA, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Richlands, VA, he was the son of the late A.L. “Red” and Daisy Scott Fletcher. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, was a 1951 graduate of Grundy High School where he played football and graduated from Milligan College in 1955 where he received his Bachelors of Arts Degree and was a 4-year Letterman in Baseball.

Mr. Fletcher was a former school teacher at Hurley High School from 1955-1960 where he coached football and was a lifelong member of Vansant Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and was Owner/Operator of Fletcher’s Hardware and Sports Center.

Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife: Clara Mae Clevinger Fletcher, Vansant, VA, 1-Daughter: Tracy Suzanne Fletcher, Vansant, VA, 1-Son: James Mark and wife Carol Fletcher, Vansant, VA, 1-Granddaughter: Candace Dawn Fletcher, Vansant, VA, 1-Special Aunt: Edna Hilton, Eaton, OH

Funeral Services for JAMES A. “RAS” FLETCHER will be conducted Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phyllis Canter officiating with burial to follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Larry Ashby, Pollard Shortt, Jerry Sexton, Harry Scott, Chris Shortt, Dave Shortt, Frank Matney, Terry Sexton, Claude Hilton and Ellis Matney.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brothers-in-Law, Dr. D. Patel, Charlie Elswick, Jim Bevins and Men of the Vansant Presbyterian Church.
