JAMES STEWARD SINGLETON,
88 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the
Wellmont-Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following injuries
sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Herndon, WV, he was the son of
the late Dale Steward and Viola Long Singleton. He was a resident of
Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of the Grundy Church of
Christ. Mr. Singleton served in the United States Army Air Corp. during
World War II. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and was a Supervisor in Retail
Sales.
Mr. Singleton was
preceded in death by his wife of 65-years, Patsy Ruth Lambert Singleton,
August 25, 2011.
He is survived by
3-Daughters: Marcia and husband Donald Swiney, Bristol, TN, Connie and
husband Carvel Edwards, Clintwood, VA, Patricia Kathy and husband Jim
Johnson, Wellington, FL, 3-Sons: Joel Mark and wife Diana Singleton,
Lebanon, VA, Michael and wife Cynthia Singleton, Concord, NC, Anthony Timon
and wife Angela Singleton, Oakwood, VA, 2-Sisters: Helen Large, Lebanon, VA,
Ann Large, Bristol, VA, 1-Brother: Herbert Singleton
Also, survived by
12-Grandchildren: Terry Swiney, Dawn Crowe, Olivia Swiney, Sarah Ashe, Chris
Edwards, Carey Edwards, Eric Keen, Heather Schenek, Andrew Singleton, Alison
Singleton, Kennedy Blackman, Cheyanne Blackman; 15-Great-Grandchildren and
1-Great-Great-Grandson.
He was preceded
in death by 1-Grandson: Craig Lewis Edwards
Funeral Services for
JAMES STEWARD SINGLETON will be
conducted Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the Grundy Church of
Christ with Evg. Dennis Wimmer and Evg. William L. Neeley officiating with
entombment to follow, Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mountain
View Cemetery Mausoleum, Bristol, VA.
Friends may call
at the Grundy Church of Christ Sunday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. to await the
funeral hour at 3:00 P.M.
Active
Pallbearers will be Billy Cook, Bill Carter, David Matney, R.J. Vanover and
Dan Crowe.
Honorary
Pallbearers will be Roger Blankenship, Troy Viers, Truman White, Gene
Belcher and Danny Belcher.
Full Military Rites will be conducted at the
cemetery by members of Child’s Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars.
