JERLENE “GERI” NICOLE CHILDRESS, 71 years of age of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville, VA, following a short  illness.  Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of Nesbie S. Childress , Grundy, VA and the late James Ernest Childress. She was a resident of Buchanan County for many years prior to moving to Charlottesville, VA. Geri was proud of her thirty years working with the Charlottesville City Police Department, and was a dear friend and mentor to a good many of her co-workers. She was a lifelong Baptist. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her mother, Nesbie S. Childress, Grundy, Virginia and was survived by her husband, Jim Powell, Charlottesville, VA, 1-Brother: James Childress and wife Linda, Kingsport, TN

Also, 1-Niece: Mariah Childress; 1-Nephew: Israel Childress and an adopted daughter, Lisa Stayments.

Funeral Services for JERLENE “GERI” NICOLE CHILDRESS will be conducted Monday, April 18, 2011 at 2:00 P. M .at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Toy Looney and others officiating  with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, Monday at 1:00 P.M. followed by Funeral Services at 2:00 P.M.  

Active Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
