
JERRY ALLEN LOONEY,
59 years of age
Richmond, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008
at the Chippenham Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Tazewell
County, he was the son of Lois Ruth Skeens Looney of Vansant, VA, and the late
Ules Looney. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life prior to
moving to Richmond, VA, in 1983.
He was preceded in death by
his father, Ules Looney on May 16, 2003.
Mr. Looney was a 1967
graduate of Grundy Senior High School where he served as class president and a
1971 graduate of Clinch Valley College where he got his B.S. Degree in Science
and was class president. In 1976, he received his Masters of Education in
Science from the University of Virginia and in 1985 he received his Bachelor of
Pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Virginia and was class president.
He taught school at Grundy Senior High School for 12 years and served as
Athletic Director.
Mr. Looney was a member of
Sandy Valley Lodge #17 AF&AM, Lodge Creek Yacht Club where he kept his boat at
Callao, VA, the United States Power Squadron, UVA Alumni Booster and MCV Alumni.
He was a retired Pharmacist from the Veterans Administration Hospital at
Petersburg, VA, loved UVA Sports and enjoyed visiting with people.
He is survived by his
fiancé: Debra Lynn Isenhower of Richmond, Virginia and his mother Lois Ruth
Skeens Looney of Vansant, VA., 3-Sisters: Mary Ann and husband Alan Howell,
Johnson City, TN, Connie and husband Doug Matney, Grundy, VA, Emma and husband
Edwin Miller, Richmond, VA, 2-Brothers: Joseph C. and wife Judy Looney, Vansant,
VA, Terry W. and wife Lana Looney, Vansant, VA
Also, survived by 10-Nieces
and Nephews and 6-Great-Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services for
JERRY ALLEN LOONEY will be conducted Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at
the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Mike Rife officiating with entombment
to follow in Mountain Rest Mausoleum at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock,
VA.
Friends may call at the
Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday evening at 6:00 P.M. with Masonic Rites at
7:00 P.M. followed by regular services.
