JERRY LEE OWENS, 69 years of age of Rt. 1, Vansant, VA, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Floyd Whetsel and Minnie Owens. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Coleman’s United Methodist Church. Mr. Owens served on the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors in the Russell Prater District for a number of years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and was an Employee of the Buchanan County School System having worked in the Maintenance Department.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou Owens, Vansant, VA, 1-Daughter: Angela and husband David Johnson, Vansant, VA, 1-Son: Jerry Allen and wife Kimberly Yvonne Owens, Vansant, VA, 2-Sisters: Evelyn Owens, Roanoke, VA, Marie Looney, Salem, VA

Also, survived by 2-Granddaughters: Mackenzie Johnson and Michaela Owens; 2-Grandsons: Cameron Johnson and James Owens; 1-Niece: Lisa and husband Loren Johnson, Roanoke, VA; and 2-Nephews: Larry and wife Sandra Looney, Roanoke, VA, and Steve Looney, Roanoke, VA.

Funeral Services for JERRY LEE OWENS will be conducted Friday, October 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Coleman’s United Methodist Church, Prater, VA, with Revs. Darrell Thacker and Russell Lockhart officiating with entombment to follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, VA.

Friends may call at the Coleman’s United Methodist Church, Prater, VA, Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. J.P. Sutherland, Jr., and the Brothers of the Coleman’s United Methodist Church.
