JOEHENE “EDISON” MATNEY, 85 years of age of Lebanon, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, VA, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Richard H. Sr. and Lottie Rife Matney. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of Harman Memorial Baptist Church and attended the Reeds Valley Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a Butcher for a Grocery Store.

Mr. Matney was preceded in death by his first wife, Mell Frances Cole Matney.

He is survived by his second wife, Frances V. Matney, Lebanon, VA, 1-Daughter:            Frances Matney Ward, Cedar Bluff, VA, 2-Sons: Edison “Sonny” and wife Mary Matney, Bristol, TN, Mark Joe Matney, Abingdon, VA, 1-Sister: Goldie Yates, Wise, VA, 5-Grandchildren: Russell and wife Karen Matney, Lynchburg, VA, Greg and wife Amy Matney, Abingdon, VA, Steve and wife Carla Matney, Abingdon, VA, Michelle and husband Randy Cole, Grundy, VA, Cleressa Ward, Cedar Bluff, VA

Also, survived by 6-Great-Grandchildren, 1-Sister-in-Law: Mrs. Rages Matney, and Daughter-in-Law: Peggy Matney.

He was preceded in death by 2-Sons: Ben Lee Matney and Harold Blaine Matney; 1-Son-in-Law: Cleon Ward; 4-Sisters: Catherine Randolph, Ellen, Alice and Pinkie Matney; 7-Brothers: Walter, Earl, Richard Jr., Rages, Storie, Garland and David Matney; 2-Brothers-in-Law: Jess Randolph and Robert Yates; and 4-Sisters-in-Law: Vernie Matney, Virginia Matney, Magaline Matney and Alice Matney.

Funeral Services for JOEHENE “EDISON” MATNEY will be conducted Monday, September 26, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ellis Nuckles and Ron Cole officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Nephews, Russell Bass, Doug Mays and Clyde Ward.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry Farmer, Jack Buchanan, Carl Buckles and Clyde Settle.
