JOHNNY YATES SR., 60 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Milton and Stella Faye Yates. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Keen Mountain Pentecostal Church and Academy. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and was a retired Coal Miner having worked for Clinchfield & Jewell Coal & Coke.

Mr. Yates is survived by his wife: Lois Yates, Vansant, VA, 2-Daughters: Deborah and husband Jessee Fraley, Vansant, VA, Roberta and husband Rex Parsons, Vansant, VA, 1-Son: Johnny Jr. and wife Brenda Yates, Vansant, VA, 4-Sisters: Jean Deel, Grundy, VA, Peggy and husband Jimmy Justice, Vansant, VA, Linda Price, Vansant, VA, Nina Jackson, Vansant, VA, 3-Brothers: Lonnie Yates, Vansant, VA, Floyd and wife Loretta Yates, Vansant, VA, Lloyd and wife Fayetta Yates, Vansant, VA, Mother-in-Law: Mary Stiltner, Vansant, VA

Also, survived by 4-Grandchildren: Chris Parsons, Nathanial Parsons, Nathan Fraley, Hannah Yates; 1-Step-Grandchild: Carol Looney; Special Friends, Sisters and Brothers-in-Law.

He was preceded in death by 1-Grandchild: Joshua Compton.

Funeral Services for JOHNNY YATES SR. will be conducted Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Webb and Dr. Danny Hess officiating with burial to follow in Dry Fork Cemetery, Vansant, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Friday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be: Joe Yates, Ellis Johnson, Brian Keen, Chad Coleman, Bo Justice, Chris Parsons and Nathanial Parsons.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rex Parsons, Jessee Fraley and Dr. Eric Goss.
