
JUNE
KATHLEEN SHORTRIDGE CLEVINGER,
90 years of age of Maxie , VA , passed away at her home Thursday, January 07,
2010 following a lengthy illness. Born in Grundy, VA , she was the daughter of
the late Bill and Lucy Deskins Shortridge and step-father Dillard Driggers. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie
Clevinger on December 30, 2005, an infant son Donald Gene and a foster-daughter
Edna Breeding. Also preceding her in death were her brothers - Harold, Joe,
John W. and Bob Shortridge, and her sisters – Helen Davis, Gertrude Barrow and
Nell Leach. June is survived by daughters Pat Ratliff and husband David of
Maxie, VA, Vicki Corby of Sunrise, Florida, Sue Delaney and husband Everett of
Grundy, VA, and
one son David “Sonny” Clevinger and wife Rita of Maxie, VA, and one sister Joy
Bernardo of Fort Pierce, Florida. She is survived by eight grandchildren,
fourteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two special care
givers - Geraldine Salmons and Kim Hackney.
She was baptized by Charles M. Sublett at the
Mountain Mission School where she graduated after fire had destroyed Grundy High
School in the late 1930’s. She attended Pikeville College and worked many years
for the Buchanan County School System as a substitute teacher and teacher’s
aide.
Among the things June enjoyed most was taking
vacations in the Western United States and Canada. She enjoyed political
functions and being with a crowd of friends. Many times she was referred to as
“The life of the party”. June loved country music especially George Jones and
Merle Haggard.
Funeral services for JUNE KATHLEEN SHORTRIDGE
CLEVINGER, will be conducted Friday, January 8, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Grundy
Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Ancil Childress, Dennis Wimmer and Rafael
Farrow officiating.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home
Chapel after 6:00 P.M. Friday evening.
Graveside Committal Services will be held at the
Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA, at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 9,
2010.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
