LEONA DORTON KEEN, 92 years of age of the Fletcher’s Ridge section of Buchanan County, passed away at her home Tuesday, March 1, 2011 following a brief illness.  Born in the Drill, VA, section of Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie W. and Sarah Osborne Shell.  She lived the majority of her life in Buchanan County and was of the Christian faith.  She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker.  She was a founding and devoted member of the Rowe Senior Citizen Center.  She enjoyed doing various crafts, needlework, quilting and gardening.  She loved having her children, grandchildren and friends visit her home. 

Mrs. Keen is survived by two daughters: Evelyn Dorton Hale and her husband Don, North Tazewell, VA, Helen Dorton Anglin  and her husband Dan, Unionville, VA, Three Sons: Charles Elmer (Sonny) Dorton and his wife Margaret, Danville, VA, Kenneth Lee Dorton and his wife Deena, Rowe, VA, Rev. Carl W. Dorton and his wife Patty, Fletcher’s Ridge, VA, One daughter-in-law: Sandy Dorton, Ripley, WV, One sister: Ocie Moore, Oakwood, VA, Three Step daughters: Dorothy and her husband Clinton McGlothlin, Honaker, VA, Mary and her husband Rondeau Helton, Ashland, Ohio, Georgia Johnson, Honaker, VA, One step son: Don Keen and his wife Violet, Gainesville, VA, Two Stepsons in Law: Carlos McGlothlin, Honaker, VA, Rev. Frank Wilson, Rienzi, MS

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She is survived by thirteen grandchildren, Twenty Three Great-Grandchildren, Three Great-Great Grandchildren, Nineteen Step-grand children, Twenty eight Step-Grandchildren, Nine Step Great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl L. Dorton in 1959, her second husband Roby B. Keen in 1984; one son – Harold Dorton, one granddaughter – Leigh Anglin Stringham, One great grandson – Matthew Dillow, six brothers, 3 sisters, 2 stepdaughters – Dolly Wilson and Lula McGlothlin; one step grandchild and one step great-great grandchild and her step Son in Law Arvil Johnson. 

Funeral services for LEONA DORTON KEEN will be conducted Friday, March 4, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ancil Childress, Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Carl Dorton officiating with burial to follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. Thursday with services at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Troy Harris officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
