RALPH DWAYNE PITTMAN, 77 years of age of Grundy, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Caretta, WV, he was the son of the late Oscar and Charlotte (Charity) Fletcher Pittman. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of Vansant Baptist Church. Mr. Pittman was a former employee of the Virginia Department of Highways and retired from Pinkerton Security Services. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a graduate of Grundy High School and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Pittman is survived by his wife: Vada Mari Layne Pittman, Grundy, VA, 1-Daughter: Retha Pittman, Grundy, VA, 1-Son: Jimmy Lee and wife Iva Pittman, Grundy, VA, 1-Grandchild: Anita and husband Lonnie Ashby, Abingdon, VA

Also, survived by 2-Great-Grandchildren: Madison and Alexa Ashby.

He was preceded in death by 1-Infant Sister: Charlene Pittman and 1-Infant Brother: Charles Pittman.

Funeral Services for RALPH DWAYNE PITTMAN will be conducted Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Moor officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Lonnie Ashby, James Plaster, Tim Ramey, Carl Chapman and Matthew Chapman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of the Vansant Baptist Church and the Employees of Total Home Care & Hospice.
