
REV. MARY VICTORIA MCCOY
SMITH, 64 years
of age of the Poplar Creek section of Grundy, Virginia, passed away Tuesday,
July 28, 2009 at the Golden Living Convalescence Home at Battlefield Park in
Petersburg, Virginia following a brief illness. Born in Washington, D. C., she
was the daughter of the late Covay and Jesse Juanita Pears McCoy.
She was a member of the
Pentecostal Church of God and has served the people of Buchanan County for the
past 27 years as a minister. She had served as a Chaplin at the Heritage Hall
Nursing Home in Grundy, Virginia for 18 years and served the residents there by
singing, reading and having a prepared lesson every Sunday. She attended all
functions at Heritage Hall. She was a proud member of the Heavenly Helpers
Relay for Life Cancer Team for the past 10 years and worked tirelessly raising
money for the American Cancer Society. She was an active member of the Ladies
of Levisa Red Hat Society. She was a member of the Buchanan County Senior
Citizens and several other organizations.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Johnny Smith on April 16, 2001.
Mary is survived by one
daughter – Mary Victoria and her husband Ellis Albert Green, Jr. of Richmond,
VA, One Step Sister: Lillian Carol Viers, Big Rock, VA, One-Step Brother: Jackie
McCoy, Keen Mountain, VA, One Special Sister & Brother-in-Law: Ronnie and Evelyn
Looney, Vansant, VA, One Special Niece: Sandra Bowman, Vansant, VA, Her
Mother-in-Law: Stella Smith, Juniper, AL, One Special Brother and Special
Sister-in-Law: Rhuia & Pat Smith, Juniper, AL, 5-Brother-in-Laws: Jennings,
Bill, Ezra, Fred, and Robert Smith, Two Grandchildren: Private Second Class
Clinton Davis Kidd and John McCoy and wife Kaitlyn Kidd, Two
Great-Granddaughters: Alyssa Brandy Kidd and Hailey Marie Kidd
Also survived by several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for REV.
MARY VICTORIA MCCOY SMITH will be conducted Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 2:00
P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. James Chapman and Ronnie
Sliger officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at
Big Rock, VA.
Friends ay call at the
Grundy Funeral Home Chapel after 5:00 P. M. Saturday and there will be an
evening service at 7:00 P.M conducted by Ladies of Red Hat Club Society followed
by Regular Services.

Heritage Hall Employees.
