ROBERT L. “BOB” CUTHBERTSON,
91 years of age of Oakwood, VA, went home to be with the Lord on
Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Born August 30,
1918, in Albamont, NC, to Moil David and Alice Bowman Cuthbertson. He came to
Buchanan County in 1936 with his family. He entered the Army, June 2, 1941 and
served 4-years during World War II. He was awarded the European, African, Middle
Eastern Ribbon with one Bronze Star, American Defense Service Ribbon and Good
Conduct Ribbon.
Bob worked most of his life in the coal mining
industry. He retired from the Island Creek Coal Company in 1979 and was a member
of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a charter member of the Garden
Creek Church of Christ where he served as an Elder.
He was married to and preceded in death by his
wife of 58-years, Genva Hagerman Cuthbertson.
He is survived by 1-Daughter: Brenda (Dottie) and
husband Ronnie Cantrell, Oakwood, VA, 1-Son: J. David and wife Linda Cuthbertson,
Horsepasture, VA, 3-Sisters: Pauline Pickett, Bynum, TX, Louise Shrader,
Como, NC, Betty and husband Joe Breeding, Kingsport, TN, 1-Brother: Buddy and
wife Mary Cuthbertson, Como, NC
Also, survived by 5-Grandchildren: Bryan K. and
wife Amy Cutherbertson, Ridgeway, VA, Christopher D. and wife Teresa Cuthbertson,
Yorktown, VA, Patricia and husband James Keen, Oakwood, VA, Steven Roberts,
Oakwood and R.D. and wife Sheena Cantrell, Oakwood, VA; and
7-Great-Grandchildren: Hank, Heather and Amanda Keen, Samuel, Alyson, Abby and
Anna Cuthbertson.
He was preceded in death by 3-Brothers: Earl
Cuthbertson and two infant siblings.
Funeral Services for ROBERT L. “BOB”
CUTHBERTSON will be conducted Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the
Garden Creek Church of Christ, Oakwood, VA, with Evgs. David Cutherbertson,
Rusty Owens and Wayne Cline officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills
Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, VA.
Friends may call at the Garden Creek Church of
Christ, Oakwood, VA, Tuesday at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be Bryan Cuthbertson,
Chris Cuthbertson, Richard Porter, Ronnie Cantrell, Jody Breeding and Randy
Smith.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy
be made in the form of a donation to the Garden Creek Church of Christ, Oakwood,
VA, or to the Cuthbertson Scholarship fund at Mid-Atlantic Christian University,
715 N. Poindexter, St. Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
Full Military Rites will be conducted at the
cemetery by members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign
War.
