SHIRLEY RUTH DAVIS KEENE, 73 years of age of the Slate Creek Section of Grundy, VA passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at her home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the William Matthew and Myrtle Stiltner Davis.  She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.  She was a former employee of  Jewell Smokeless Coal Corporation, and was a loving mother, and grandmother.   

She is survived by:  1- Son:  Keith Arnold and wife Beverly Keene, Grundy, VA; 3-Sisters: Jeanette Brewster, Pilgrimsknob, VA,             Loretta and husband Lawrence Dawson, Grundy, VA, Ruby Beebe, Florida; 1-Brother: Ray and wife Faye Davis, Grundy, VA;       1-Granddaughter: Alicia Denice Keene, Grundy, VA.

Shirley’s Special Care-Takers were:  Geralene Davis, Kimberly Crouse, and Tina Rife.

She was preceded in death by:  2-Sisters:  Joyce Ann Davis and Nell Davis Church; 2-Brothers:  William Davis Jr., and Dewey Davis.

Funeral Services for SHIRLEY RUTH DAVIS KEENE will be conducted Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers:  Lester Boyd, Jeff Keene, and Elder William McClanahan officiating with burial to follow in the W. A. Boyd Cemetery on Big Fox near Leemaster, VA.   

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday at 5:00 P.M. with services Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be:  Gary Dawson, Greg Dawson, Jerry Brewster, Anthony Keene, Wesley Keene, Richard Riordan, and Jeff Justus.

Honorary Pallbearers will be:  Tony Perkins, Dr. Eric Goss, Eugene Whited, Timmy Church, Tommy Brewster, Keith Boyd, Charles, Boyd, Jarrod Keen,  Willie Keene, Johnathon Rife, Daniel Keene and the  Total Home Health Care Nurses.
