VIRGINIA CHARLOTTE MATNEY, 69 years of age of Dismal River Road, Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Bluefield Regional Hospital following a brief illness.  Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late William George and Mary Alice Hagy Matney.  She was a graduate of Grundy High School and was Salutatorian of her Class.  She attended Southwest Virginia Community College.  She was a former employee of B & L Maytag in Grundy, Virginia for 43 years and worked as Credit Manager.  She was a member of United States Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict as a member of the WACS.  She attended the Church of Jesus and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Miss Matney is survived by One sister-in-law: Ocie Matney Beach, Oakwood, VA, One Niece: Liz Matney Justus and her husband Bobby, Oakwood, VA, One Nephew: Randy Matney and his wife Mary, Oakwood, VA, Three-half nieces: Rose Roberts, Phelps, KY, Betty Williamson, McAndrews, KY, Phyllis Daugherty, Phelps, KY, One Great Niece: Rene Branson, Abingdon, VA, One Great Nephew: Tyler Justus, Oakwood, VA, Special Friends: Delphia Davis, Vernice Mullins and Friends at the Rainbow Restaurant.

She was preceded in death by one sister – Helen Matney, Two brothers – William Thurman Matney and Ralph Matney, Two Half-Sisters – Alta Gooslin and Virginia Wolford and one nephew Robie Matney.

Funeral services for VIRGINIA CHARLOTTE MATNEY will be conducted Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home chapel with Elder Jerry Matney officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon.
