WILLIAM SHAYLOR MUTTER, 72 years of age of Grundy, VA., passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness.  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Roy Clair Mutter and Bessie Mae Jackson Mutter. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Protestant faith. He was a former employee of Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He served in the United States Air Force for 8 years.

Mr. Mutter is survived by is wife Erna Mae Stiltner Mutter of Grundy, VA, One daughter: Sandra and her husband Randall (Randy) Ashby, Grundy, VA, One Son:    Randall Dean and his wife Carlene Mutter, Grundy, VA, Five Sisters: Wanda Padgette, Richlands, VA, Dallas and her husband Herbert Hess, Youngstown, OH, Fern Duecaster, Ravennna, OH, Ogla Davis, Mansfield, OH, Lydia Coleman, Mansfield, OH, One Brother: O’Ferrell Mutter, Oakwood, VA  

Five Grandchildren – Justin Edwards, Tracy Edwards, Alex Edwards, Lanee Mutter, and Kelsi Mutter

One Step-Grand daughter – Brittney Ashby

He was preceded in death by two brothers – Carlos and Jessie Mutter

Funeral services for WILLIAM SHAYLOR MUTTER will be conducted Monday, February 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Ronnie Sliger, Danny Hess, and Josh Bowman officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active pallbearers will be Grandsons and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brothers-in-law.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
