BILLY RAY DEEL, 66 years of age, of Grundy, VA, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at his home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Willoughby and Bessie Jane Boyd Deel.  He was a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1962, and the Virginia State Police Academy and he was a member of the Vansant Church of Christ.  Mr. Deel was a retired police officer of 31 years in law enforcement serving the Town of Grundy, Buchanan County Sheriffs Department, the Virginia State Police, and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. 

Mr. Deel is survived by his wife of 41 years Lois Ann Brown Deel of Grundy, VA; 1-Daughter: Kyra Rae Deel Lester and husband Jeff, Vansant, VA, 1-Son: Jamison Ray Deel, Johnson City, TN; 3-Grandchildren:  Dylan Tate Lester, Vansant, VA, Dalton Tyler Lester, Vansant, VA, Lindsay Rhea Lester, Vansant, VA; 1-Sister:            Irene Deel, Grundy, VA; 3-Brothers:  Jackie and wife Judy Deel, Grundy, VA, Thomas Deel, Grundy, VA, Percy and wife Evelyn Deel. Vansant, VA. 

 In addition to his parents Mr. Deel was preceded in death by 1-Sister:  Callie Deel.

Funeral services for BILLY RAY DEEL will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 1:00 P.M at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Potter officiating with burial to follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday afternoon at 6:00 P.M. with Services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be:  Zack Cochran, Robbie Brown, Roger Brown, Gary Cochran, Corbett Ratliff, and Nathanael Cochran.
